I bought a new camera yesterday so I hope to take better photos of my work in future. I've had dirt on the sensor of my old camera for ages, very annoying. If you look to the top right of the first two images you will see what I mean.

Wednesday's life drawing

Venue: Mäster Olofsgården, Old town, Stockholm 20151111

I'm a few days late with publishing these sketches. I've been unwell but feeling better now. This life drawing session was difficult. The model was very uninspiring, she had no energy in her poses what so ever. I knew I had to get professional about it and try and find something positive. In the end I did find a way to do better sketches of her - I lied, I exaggerated the poses and added curves that didn't exist. It's cheating in some ways but I know the great artists do it all the time.

This is what I used today while sketching at the National Museum here in Stockholm.

14 x 9 cm Hans.book,  one clamp,  Koh - i - noor putty rubber,  Creatacolor 9b, 3mm 6b mechanical pencil and 0.9mm 2b mechanical pencil. I also had an Arm -Adillo pen holder.

Sketches from my sailing holiday in Greece.

Greece, a beautiful place with lovely people. Shame about the trouble it is in. I hope it gets better for them real soon. I spent a week sailing between Corfu and mainland Greece. I had a wonderful time.

Smudging my lines

I bought two sticks of Derwent XL Charcoal ( Ochre 01 and Sanguine 02 ). They are small and chubby so I don't know why they call them, XL! But, this is not important - what is important is that I am having lots of fun smudging grated charcoal powder all over my pencil sketches. I used some grated red pastel and black charcoal also in the mix of things. All drawings are on Fabriano A4.

First life drawing after the summer break

It felt real good to be back life drawing again. I chose not to watercolour, instead I used pencil, pastel and charcoal. I was able to cover a lot of paper in a very short space of time with these materials. Very satisfying and lots fun, I smudged a lot with my fingers. All drawings are on Fabriano A4 sketch paper.

The less time the better

Honestly, the more time I spend on a drawing the more I wreck it with uncertainty. Keeping it pure isn't easy after two minutes. This is why I haven't shown any of my drawings that were longer that two minutes this time around.

Madame Flex

Location: Basis, Stockholm, Saturday, 20140201.

Saturday's model was incredible in the way she could flex and bend her body into the most impossible positions. What was even more impressive was the fact that she could hold these poses for ten minutes without much effort. She left us feeling exhausted after trying to work out the lines of her anatomy during the two hour session. It was fun.
