Sunday Nude

I spent the whole day yesterday drawing and painting. First I met up with fellow Stockholm - Urbansketchers. We gathered outside the library at Kulturhuset which is a large cultural centre in the middle of Stockholm. Later in the day some of us attended life drawing at Konstnärshuset,  this watercolour took 40 minutes. It was challenging because I had to paint wet on wet most of the time. I had to apply thick paint for the eyes, otherwise the damp paper would have blurred them out of recognition. If you would like to see my urban-sketches please visit here.

Painting a live model

I wish there were more opportunities to paint longer model poses here in Stockholm. Maybe the art colleges have. If anyone out there knows of same position, one, two or three hours model posing please do inform me.
This watercolour took one hour in total to paint. I say in total because we had a 20 minute coffee break after forty minutes. See previous post for the last painting from the evening, it was a quick one that took 10 minutes.

Back to smudging

Venue: Mäster Olofsgården, Old town, Stockholm 20151102

I have a friend visiting Stockholm at the moment. He goes to life drawing nearly everyday when he is in town. I'm going to more sessions because of this. It's fun, I meet new people I wouldn't otherwise meet.
I'm back to using charcoal dust and smudging with my fingers. It like this technique, it's fast and expressive. The only negative is that it's pretty messy but that's a small sacrifice for the sake of art!

Different treatment

I held my pencil right at the end of the shaft. I kept my arm totally straight while my sketch pad was down on the floor while I sat. Interesting results I think, quite lively.

Saturday's life drawing

I did some life drawing today, it's the first time in a while that I've had time to figure draw on a Saturday. I enjoyed myself. I love the crowd at Basis, that was the venue.

Tuesday's life drawing

I am struggling at the moment. Out of balance, too many things to do. Only one sketch worth showing from Tuesday's life drawing session at Konstnärshuset.

Life drawing

I have a lot going on at the moment both at work and privately. This keeps me away from my art, it's frustrating and a bit depressing. I will have more time again during the summer months, I look forward to it.

These life drawings are from two weeks ago at Konstnärshuset.

Tuesday's life drawing

Venue: Konstnärshuset, Stockholm. 20150414

It felt good to be figure drawing again after a two week break. I feel frustrated these days, I just don't have enough time for my art. I am working on it, trying to free up more time in the future. I buy lots of gadgets to improve my art, the latest being Ken Bromley's paper stretchers, it's an expensive hobby if you let it be so. I wish time was as easy to buy!

Tuesday's life drawing

Venue: Konstnärshuset, Stockholm, 20150310

A new model this week, at least I don't think I've drawn her before. She had a Egon Schiele type of body, skinny, long fingers and big hands with an unusual face. I really enjoyed sketching her, I hope I get to draw her again soon. It takes a few hours grind to get used to the contours of a new model.

Saturday's life drawing

Venue: Basis, Stockholm, 20150307

I love the social aspect of going to Saturday life drawing at Basis. The people there are so warm and friendly. It's a shame the lighting in the room is so bad, directional light is almost none existent. It gets better in the spring when natural light replaces the cold and cruel florescent tubes. I try not to let it affect me, this week I focused on line and detail - the shading was secondary. My bad period seems to be lifting, I feel more in harmony with my drawing. Grumpy artist, nothing worse.

Tired model. An uninspired artist. Not too many good drawings produced at this session.

Tuesday's Life Drawing

Life Drawing at Konstnärshuset, Stockholm, 20150127

I have not much to say about these illustrations. A picture speaks for itself anyway, so I'll just sign off now and get back to my drawing-board.

Life drawing last Tuesday

I haven't been able to post on my blog for a while because of workloads and colds etc. I have also been painting and drawing more than usual, but this is a good excuse not to post on one's blog! Hopefully in the next couple of days I will publish the backlog of work that has accumulated.

These life drawings were done at, "Konstnärshuset" Stockholm 20141111.
