Tuesday's life drawing

It was a full-house at Konstnärshuset, I arrived five minutes before the start and there were no seats left. Thankfully, I had my light-weight tripod with me and had no problems standing at the back of the large room. There must have been fifty sketchers that evening. There was a large distance between the model and my failing eyes, I couldn't see small details but when I think about it, maybe that was a good thing.

Brig Tre Kronor

I enjoyed painting this, it was a real challenge. I darkened the sky and sea to make the boat stand out. I did this a day after I had ennitinally finished. It's important to stand back a little and let some time go by before one finally decides that the painting is complete.

Brig Tre Kronor
"Four gentlemen with a passion for beauty, navigation and sailing vessels launched the Stockholm Brig project in 1993. The first drawings were presented in 1994, and in 1997 the Brig’s keel was laid on Skeppsholmen, Stockholm." Read more about this beautiful boat here.

Lunchtime Reflection

Painted during two lunch breaks last week. I am focused on improving my water impressions. One would think it's easy because I'm working with watercolour, - not!

Lunchtime watercolour

I managed to squeeze a watercolour into my lunch break last Monday. It took 30 minutes,  I am pretty happy with the result considering the time-window. I used Fabriano Artisico GF, 300g/m2 and it's 14 x 20 cm in size.

Tuesday's life drawing

It was the first evening at Konstnärshuset (The Artist''s House), it felt good to be back after the summer break. I'm still playing around with pastels and charcoal. All sketches were on A4 Fabriano sketch paper.

First life drawing after the summer break

It felt real good to be back life drawing again. I chose not to watercolour, instead I used pencil, pastel and charcoal. I was able to cover a lot of paper in a very short space of time with these materials. Very satisfying and lots fun, I smudged a lot with my fingers. All drawings are on Fabriano A4 sketch paper.

Horse weekend

As a web designer, I help promote everything to do with horse betting and horse culture here in Sweden. My office is right next to the national trotting track (Solvalla) and so I see horses every day. It struck me a while back that they are just as interesting to study and draw as humans, such elegant creatures. I  dedicated this weekend to drawing and painting them, to see if I could be as good as Joseph Zbukvic! No chance, I have a number of apprentice years left I'm afraid. I had fun doing them though, the weekend just zipped by. For all three paintings I used photos as reference care of Kanal 75.

Weekend painter

I've been enjoying myself this weekend. Non-stop watercolouring for two days, heaven! I have chosen horses as my theme for painting. It's a lot of fun, I'll publish some of them later today.

A late night doodle

It was our turn to guard the boats at the sailing club last week. It was an all night thing, one just had to drink pints of coffee, chew endless amounts of candy and draw a little to pass the time.

Watercolour postcards

Italian watercolour paper company, Fabriano have a block of ready made postcards to paint and send to your nearest and dearest. Here are two I painted last week, one to my mother in law, thanking her for my present, a shirt and the flowers I sent to my mother, lots of plus-points received.
